Have you been thinking about introducing running drills into your programme but not sure where to start or picked up one of our challenges and seen them programmed in?

We’ve pulled together a collection of videos from the internet which clearly show you some of our favourite drills to include in your programming.

Number 1 - A & B Skips

WHY

A and B Skips are basic drills that help to both develop lower-leg strength and encourage knee lift which in turn promotes a more efficient foot strike. This is a great drill to include before a speed workout to get the key muscles firing and improve turnover.

HOW

Number 2 - Strides

WHY

Strides are a great way to focus on lengthening out your stride prior to speed work.

HOW

Number 3 - High Knees

WHY

The high knees drill does exactly what it says encouraging you to lift the knee, and firing the leg muscles which is key to a powerful and efficient leg drive.

HOW

Number 4 - Bounds

WHY

Bounding is a fantastic drill for those wanting to increases lower leg power and the stability necessary to maintain good running form.

HOW

Number 5 - Fast Feet

WHY

This drill looks to develop a faster than normal turnover of feet with a shortened stride length which then carry over into a faster turnover as you move into your run. 20m of fast feet into a fast run out – perfect.

HOW

Number 6 - Curb Drops

WHY

Curb drops are a fantastic drill not seen very often but a great addition to your armoury. Effectively a plyometric hop from a lifted knee position you drop down off the curb and rebound up to where you started. This trains the muscles of the lower leg to absorb the load and extend to generate power.
